It was lots of fun demoing the Gestate system we developed for performance at the NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) 2014 conference poster session today. Thanks for the insightful feedback! Definitely plenty of food for thought. Here is a demo I promised.

A video of the Electrofringe TINA 2013 Showcase and Closing Party were recently released on Vimeo. It’s offers a great rundown of all the performances, installations and workshops that took place. Big thanks to the event’s Co-producers, Roslyn Helper and Peter Fitzgibbon for putting it all together.

Velocimixer
•February 26, 2014 • Comments Off on VelocimixerWe will be setting up an interactive space on Friday 28 February at MCA Art Bar. Groups of visitors can collectively control a virtual audio mixer with the speed of their movements.
The event brings together artists, technicians, composers and performers around the theme of self-made instruments. Tickets and more information are available on the MCA site here.
Work in Progress
•February 6, 2014 • Comments Off on Work in ProgressI’ve been recording some of my gestural effects manipulations. It’s challenging to control the ‘liveness’ of the effects and keep a consistent volume, but some interesting results have been coming out.
Here’s an experiment in cross-rhythms inspired by  spontaneous  body impulses. I decided to work with a stripped down version of Concentric Motion. Using an audio file rather than vocal or instrumental input allowed me to focus on what could come out of the movements rather than on improvising as well. The image is the product of a video collaboration with J D Young.

Back from TINA
•October 8, 2013 • Comments Off on Back from TINAThanks to the organisers of Electrofringe and all who attended. We performed for the first time with a handmade scrim, so the visual feedback for the gestural instruments could be integrated into the projections. I was able to process video sources kindly provided by J D Young, who unfortunately  couldn’t make it to the show. We look forward to trying the new setup with everyone present soon.
The Electrofringe event page has posted photos of the event here.
